CartWise Privacy Policy

This policy explains what CartWise collects, how sign-in and local saving work, when scan data may leave your device, and what controls users have over permissions, exports, and deletion requests.

1. Scope

This policy applies to the CartWise iPhone app, CartWise account sign-in, and the connected services used to power scanning, OCR, product analysis, receipt analysis, support, and account operations.
CartWise is designed for product and receipt intelligence. It is not medical, legal, or financial advice.

2. Data CartWise collects

Account data such as your sign-in provider, account ID, handle, and email address when it is provided by Apple, email sign-in, or another enabled provider.
Scan data such as product photos, receipt photos, extracted text, matched products, saved reports, saved receipts, and correction history.
Usage and settings data such as onboarding state, app preferences, premium state, preferred currency, permission prompts, and scan counts.
Feedback and price data such as manual price observations, likes or dislikes, and other feedback submitted in CartWise.
Optional location data used to improve local pricing or quality context when a user allows location access.

3. How sign-in and local saving work

CartWise keeps local app data separated by signed-in account on the device. Signing in with Apple or email restores the local snapshot saved for that account instead of mixing histories together.
When a user signs out, CartWise switches back to the signed-out local snapshot on the device.
Current sign-in sessions are stored in the iOS Keychain. Exported data does not include live access tokens or refresh tokens.

4. Why CartWise uses data

To scan receipts and products, match items, score products, save history, and restore account-linked results when a user signs back in.
To improve receipt corrections, catalog matching, price observations, and community-backed product quality over time.
To operate sign-in, support, fraud prevention, exports, and service health monitoring.

5. When data may leave the device

Receipt images, product images, and extracted text may be sent to CartWise-operated services or third-party processors to perform OCR, product matching, reasoning, and report generation.
Depending on which features are enabled, CartWise may use processors and data sources such as Apple, Supabase, OpenAI, Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, FDA recall feeds, and CartWise backend infrastructure.
If additional backend connectors are enabled for merchant lookup, OCR, barcode resolution, or evidence retrieval, those requests may also be processed by the providers configured for those features.

6. Sharing and selling

CartWise does not sell personal data.
CartWise does not accept payment to secretly promote or rank brands.
CartWise may share data with service providers only as needed to operate the app, authenticate users, process scans, secure the service, store data, or comply with legal obligations.

7. Retention, export, and deletion

CartWise stores local app history and settings on the device. Current sign-in credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain.
Users can export their local CartWise data from Settings. The export excludes live sign-in tokens.
Users can clear the local CartWise data for the current device scope from Settings. Clearing local data does not automatically delete server-side records, shared catalog data, or processor records that were already lawfully created.

8. Permissions

Camera and Photos are used for receipt and product scanning.
Location is optional and is only used to improve local quality or pricing context when a user allows it.
Users can change app permissions at any time in iOS Settings.

9. Children and sensitive use

CartWise is not intended for children under 13.
If a user has allergies, medical conditions, pregnancy-related concerns, or strict dietary requirements, they should verify product details independently and consult qualified professionals before relying on a recommendation.

10. Contact and updates

If this policy changes in a material way, the Last updated date will change and the in-app policy will be updated.
